Because the open source programs don't do menus, you don't get proper forced subtitle handling because the correct streams are not selected / activated. Much of the forced subtitle handling such as selecting the right stream with flagged forced subtitles or selecting a special stream with no flagged but only "forced" subtitles is done by VM commands in the menu when you start playback. Forced subtitles will never be handled correctly until menus are properly implemented.
